How Digital Embellishments Increased Our Profit Margins by 30%

Print is completely dead—unless you stop printing basic, boring materials. If you are a print shop owner or brand marketer, you need to read this immediately.

In a world obsessed with digital noise and AI, physical marketing is often dismissed as a waste of money. The truth is, the problem isn’t print itself; the problem is that standard print is flat, boring, and forgettable.

We recently broke down the psychology of print embellishments like raised foil and spot UV. This isn’t just about making things look visually appealing; it is pure brain science. When a customer holds a heavily textured package or marketing piece, their brain instantly associates it with luxury and high value.

The statistics are undeniable:

  • Holding an embellished piece gives you a 50% higher chance of closing the sale.
  • On a crowded retail shelf, textured packaging sells two times more than regular flat packaging.

But here is the breakthrough that changes the game forever: we have developed a patent-pending synthetic vinyl banner with raised foil. It is 100% waterproof, built entirely for the outdoors, and nobody else in the world is doing it. You can use this exclusive technology for outdoor signage, floor graphics, and car magnets to create undeniable attention.

Regular CMYK printing is a race to the bottom for your profit margins. If you want to survive and scale, you must add massive value and upsell with texture to make your brand truly stand out from the crowd.

[00:00] All right guys, Eddie Davin here. I’m here with Trevor Joyce to talk about embellishments. Alright Trev, let’s go. What do we have to show here?

[00:10] Got a couple of things today. Let’s let’s talk about, this is one of my favorite pieces actually. So let’s, let’s get right into this one. This one has raised foil, raised spot UV. This is a beautiful, beautiful piece that you put together.

[00:23] It was actually challenging because there was a lot of, many elements. you can see a lot of many elements on here. There’s a lot of fine lines on here. And we actually had to do a lot of work to the press to get this output. But also the designers had to do a lot of work at a design level to get all these files masked properly, to show all these fine vector lines.

[00:43] But if you notice, a lot of the times when you do embellishments, we actually. Do that fine textured pattern. And we do it on the front and the back. And the reason why is because when people hold this object, they’re feeling that texturized. Effect, and it reinforces the brand memory in that sense. So this actually does a lot of things to the brain to help brands, reinforce their message or, you know, fight that digital noise that we’re all fighting now with the AI.

[01:17] On the web, everything has so much texture on it and you can just touch it. You just wanna kind of fiddle with it. They say that texture is kind of like the next level stuff and it is very associated with luxury. A lot of luxury brands tend to use the textiles in a way that’s no one else is using. So this is always good to see.

[01:33] I mean, there’s science involves in it too. So like when you have packaging or marketing. Piece and that has texture or foil. You know, that, I’ll give you an example. In the store they’re saying that if you hold a piece and you know, embellished piece, so let’s just say you pick a packaging, it’s nice and you’re holding it into your hands and you’re maybe even interacting and having that message reinforced, but you have a 50% higher chance of buying that object. 50% just by Just by holding it. Just by holding it, right. Yeah.

[02:01] But even, let’s just talk about embellishment, like, so if you were to choose an embellished product over a non embellished packaging, so I’m talking about the packaging itself, and let’s just say on the shelf there was a, just a regular flat print. But a heavily textured or maybe foil packaging just beside it, they are more likely to buy that two times more than the actual non embellished version.

[02:24] So, It does have an effect on purchasing decisions, brands, recognitions and that sort of thing. And it’s perceived value. You know, it doesn’t have to just only apply to, you know, physical, printed, marketing products, but it’s also the packaging as well. that’s I wanted to have texturize.

[02:47] Next, you wanna talk about this banner, because I, I know it’s. Something you’re not gonna be able to find anywhere else in the world, because of the fact that you have the foil and the spot UV. Check this out on this thing. It, it’s insane. Isn’t that amazing? Like , this is by far one of my favorite pieces. And it’s not just the design. I mean, again, this is very heavily embellished. You have that textured pattern which does, you know, feel nice to feel, but I don’t know if how many people are gonna be. Feeling a, a banner. Yeah.

[03:22] But I just wanna make note that this is not on paper. This is not on paper. Okay. So a lot of people would say, oh, that’s just printed on paper. No, this is, this is vinyl. This is plastic. Yeah. Right. So that’s the thing with this, I mean embellishments, a lot of the PSPs or the producers now, they focus more on a paper. Paper cardboard type of embellishment, but this is a hundred percent synthetic.

[03:47] We actually develop a process at the innovation center here where we actually have a P-E-T, P-V-C version of this. There’s no paper content and this can last outdoors. with raised foil and raised varnish. So our, our question, you know, you guys, you gotta think about this for a second. Where can you get a banner with raised foil? No, you can’t.

[04:10] I looked hard and I couldn’t find it and I realized that is something we can actually patent. So that is actually a patent pending. Any banner, say synthetic material that uses the type of equipment. and it doesn’t have to be banner. It could be a car magnet, it could be a floor graphic, but raised foil, raised varnish. That would be a patent that we will be getting very shortly. So that is very exciting.

[04:36] But yeah, the applications for this is, is endless now because of synthetic, I mean, we can use them a lot more you could use it on the floors. You could use them outside on the cars. We can do right. Yeah. You could even do, you can make vinyl signage. so that could be mounted outdoor. So imagine like a big sign that with a foil raised foil and even like that textured pattern foil. Right. So that would be an outdoor sign. Outdoor, yeah. That would really be very. So that’s what we looking fo floor graphics, all kinds of stuff. That’s, that’s, that’s, this is what makes it really cool and, and so dynamic.

[05:03] But again, they say print is dead and. The, it’s a kind of a race to the bottom with your margins in the print industry. And this is a way that we’re kind of a solution to revive that, to bring back those proper print margins that we want. And just to upsell and add more value to your print products.

[05:21] Which is at the end of the day what we want to do. We want to add more value to our clients, but also sell more stuff and make our clients happy. At the end of the day, they’re able then to put these into stores and sell more of their products. So we were excited to launch this with the local print shop providers, print shops in the Toronto area, you know, to handle all of the embellishments. And we see that this is an exciting and a new way to generate more revenue. I’ll ask you guys this question, so if not embellishments, if not specialty print. How else would you expand your business with regular CMYK? That’s the question. And it’s a great question.
